Mission

Vashon Artist Residency provides a diverse group of artists the time and space to create, the opportunity to engage with other residents and the experience of living and working amidst the ecology and community of Vashon Island.

Commitment to Equity

Equity, access and inclusion are integral to the fulfillment of our mission. Vashon Artist Residency is committed to being a community that welcomes and respects everyone regardless of age, ability, ethnicity, race, religion, philosophical or political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, nationality, geographic origin, and socioeconomic status. We strive to provide an accessible, inclusive and equitable experience for our applicants and residents. We actively seek out new strategies for achieving this objective.

Land Acknowledgement

Vashon Artist Residency acknowledges that we are on the traditional homeland of the Puyallup, Spuyalpabš or S’Puyalupubsh, a Coast Salish tribe. We are grateful for their continued stewardship of this remarkable place. We recognize that this gesture is a small step toward true allyship. We commit to uplifting the voices, experiences, and histories of the Indigenous people of this land and beyond.
