Vitalogy Foundation Expands Access Initiative
With generous support from Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation, Vashon Artist Residency is expanding its Access Initiative, which has provided three full scholarships and stipends to BIPOC artists each year. Established in 2023, the Access Initiative encourages BIPOC artists to apply to and attend the residency, addressing underrepresentation in previous applicant pools.
Thanks to the grant from Vitalogy Foundation, five BIPOC artists will receive full scholarships and stipends in 2025. These stipends defray travel and living expenses, ensuring that artists from diverse economic, cultural, and geographic backgrounds can benefit from this transformative professional development opportunity.
Founded in 2021 and located on the shore of the Salish Sea on Vashon Island in Washington, Vashon Artist Residency hosts four artists in each of its 11 annual sessions. The residency provides artists with time and space to reflect, experiment, and create new works of art.
The Vashon Artist Residency expresses deep gratitude to Pearl Jam and the Vitalogy Foundation for their commitment to supporting and increasing access for artists.
