Steve Rocks!

Vashon Island geologist, Steve Bergman began providing our Rock Walk Talks in 2021 and he has generously continued to offer these fascinating, hands-on explorations of Vashon’s geologic history to our Residents.

Steve Bergman (PhD, Princeton Univ.), is a research geologist and educator who lives on Vashon. In 2016, he retired from a career in energy and minerals exploration research and teaching geology courses that included earthquakes and volcanoes, geology of wine, diamonds, and environmental geology at the University of Texas at Dallas and Southern Methodist University.

In addition to serving on numerous local boards, he curated the Natural Wonders Geology exhibit at the Vashon Heritage Museum and is a member of the Vashon Union of Geologists.

Bergman is interested in pursuing fundamental and applied geological research to increase Vashon’s sustainability and resilience and raising public awareness of the impact of geosciences on our lives.

We are grateful to Steve for sharing his knowledge and passion with our visiting artists.
