Accommodations

Vashon Artist Residency welcomes up to seven artists for each residency session. Accommodations include a private bedroom, a private or shared bathroom, a communal kitchen for meals and indoor and outdoor areas for dining and relaxing. Each resident will have 24 hour access to a private studio or writer’s desk with WiFi.

Residents are responsible for the cost of their own travel, supplies and food.

Guest Policy

For the comfort and sense of safety for all of our residents, we do not allow any overnight guests, partners, children or pets of residents. If residents would like to meet with a friend or family member at the Residency, we ask that they seek permission from the Executive Director and their cohort at least 24 hours in advance.

Accessibility

Vashon Artist Residency seeks to support artists of diverse abilities, both visible and invisible. Prior to applying, artists that have specific questions or concerns about accessibility or how to manage movement, medication, or any other physical or emotional concerns, should contact us so that staff may determine if we are able to accommodate your needs. Staff will keep personal matters confidential except in an emergency situation.

Vashon Artist Residency has two housing facilities, The Big House and The Little House—along with several dedicated studios and workspaces located across the property. The site includes a mix of stair, ramp, and level-access pathways; details are provided below to help applicants assess mobility considerations.

The Big House
The Big House is located down a concrete pathway and three sets of concrete stairs from the parking area. All communal spaces, including the living room, kitchen, and primary patio, are accessed via these stairs. Each of the four bedrooms is also accessed by stairs. Three of the four bedrooms include ensuite bathrooms.

The Little House
The Little House is accessible via a wide wooden ramp or wooden stairs. It has a low-threshold entry leading to a single-level interior that includes the kitchen, living room, primary deck, and three bedrooms. All three bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms.

Writer Bedrooms
There are three dedicated writer bedrooms (the largest bedrooms on site), each furnished with a desk, monitor, ergonomic chair, reading chair, and lamps. Two writer rooms are located in The Big House, and one is located in The Little House.
